About Paolo

Paolo was born and lives in Firenze where he attended the Scientific High School and graduated in Mathematical Sciences at the Firenze University. Over the course of his musical career, parallel to his business career in the Intelligent Transport Systems field, Paolo has been writing over 150 songs.

He was co-founder of the band Lightshine (1976), then founder of the Wildfire (1978) and member of the Greyhound band, FM, James Taylor Tribute. He was also member of the Firenze Duomo's Choir (1987-88) and musical co-Director of the S. Casciano in val di Pesa's Piccolo Teatro (1994-1999).

Paolo met many of his favourite artists like Chris Simpson, James Taylor, Arnold Mc Culler, America, Tommy Emmanuel, John David Souther, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Ken Nicol, Karla Bonoff, Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen, Russ Barenberg, Russel Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Robert Mc Entee and he played live with some legendary artists like Chris Simpson of Magna Carta in 1998, with whom he co-wrote Listen, that is part of his latest work Nowadays and Yesterdays.

Paolo wrote his first song “One for the other” at the age of 15, with the guitar and harmonica by his side. First listening to English progressive bands like Genesis, Van der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, he was completely blown out by the folk English acoustic music and by the Country Rock/West Coast influence.
His major sources of inspirations in the years span from The Beatles, Magna Carta, Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Eagles, Poco, Gordon Lightfoot, Mark-Almond, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Dan Fogelberg, America, Simon and Garfunkel, Stephen Bishop, Tommy Emmanuel, Chat Atkins, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bonnie Raitt, Karla Bonoff, Linda Ronstadt and many, many others. Then his guitars, banjo, mandolin, resophonic guitar, pedal steel, keyboards and ….an iMac did the rest, becoming his home studio. Nowadays his songs mainly come out from there.
Many of Paolo's songs owe their inspiration to the local Tuscany wonderful landscape. He is always honoured to participate and organise charity events.  Paolo released his first demo record in 1995, with two songs “Sea wave eyes” and “A knife to cut my pain”, cut both in English and Italian. Paolo then released his first CD The Stage, published by Abraxas, in 2010. His second cd Secret share was published in 2016 and his latest release Nowadays and Yesterdays has been published in 2019.

Paolo’s music is an exercise to summarise feelings and concepts into lyrics, tunes and harmonies; a long way towards the communication of his thoughts, as a part of his life.

Biografia

Paolo è nato e vive a Firenze, città nella quale ha frequentato il Liceo Scientifico per poi laurearsi in Matematica presso la Facoltà di Scienze Matematiche Fisiche e Naturali dell’Università di Firenze. Nel corso della sua carriera musicale, parallela alla sua attività nel campo dei Sistemi Intelligenti per il Trasporto, Paolo ha scritto oltre 150 canzoni. E’ stato co-fondatore del gruppo Lightshine (1976), poi ha fondato i Wildfire (1978) ed è stato membro di Greyhound band, FM, James Taylor Tribute. Ha anche frequentato il Coro del Duomo di Firenze (1987-88) ed è stato co-Direttore musicale della compagnia Piccolo Teatro di S. Casciano in val di Pesa (1994-1999). Paolo ha incontrato personalmente molti dei suoi artisti preferiti come Chris Simpson, James Taylor, Arnold Mc Culler, America, Tommy Emmanuel, John David Souther, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Ken Nicol, Karla Bonoff, Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen, Russ Barenberg, Russel Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Robert Mc Entee e ha suonato dal vivo con artisti leggendari del calibro di Chris Simpson dei Magna Carta nel 1998, con il quale ha co-scritto Listen, che è un brano che fa parte della sua ultima pubblicazione Nowadays and Yesterdays. Paolo scrisse la sua prima canzone “One for the other” a 15 anni, con chitarra e armonica. Dall’iniziale ascolto di progressive inglese con band come Genesis, Van der Graaf Generator, King Crimson, Paolo fu poi completamente assorbito dalla musica folk inglese e dal Country Rock/West Coast. Ad oggi le sue canzoni principalmente nascono lì e molte di esse prendono ispirazione dallo splendido paesaggio toscano. Paolo è sempre onorato di poter partecipare e organizzare eventi di beneficenza. Paolo ha realizzato il suo primo demo nel 1995 inciso per Abraxas, con due canzoni “Sea wave eyes” e “A knife to cut my pain”, registrate anche in Italiano con i titoli “Silenzio Verde” e “Ombra strana”. Paolo ha poi pubblicato il suo primo cd The Stage, sempre con Abraxas, nel 2010. Il suo secondo cd Secret share nel 2016 e il suo ultimo lavoro Nowadays and Yesterdays è finalmente disponibile dal Novembre 2019. La musica di Paolo è un esercizio di sintesi di sensazioni e concetti in parole, melodie e armonie vocali; una lunga strada verso la comunicazione dei suoi pensieri, come parte della sua vita. Paolo ha pubblicato nel Novembre 2020 il suo primo libro Bolle di sapone.
